Stage 2 Water Restrictions In Effect

Sec. 36-76. - Stages of water restrictions and permissions during a drought.

(a) Stage 1 alert begins when the aquifer level (as well as any other entities that provides water to the city) reaches 650 feet mean sea level at the monitored well.

(1) Water waste is prohibited to include, allowing water to run off onto a gutter, ditch or drain; or failing to repair a controllable leak.

(2) Residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural Edwards Aquifer water (as well as any other entities that provides water to the city) users should reduce water consumption by any means available.

(3) Restaurants serve water only on request.

(4) Swimming pools must have a minimum of 25 percent of the surface area covered with evaporation screens when not in use.

(5) Watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler permitted only once a week on the designated watering day during the hours of 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.:

(6) Watering with hand-held hose or drip irrigation permitted any day.

(7) Washing impervious cover such as parking lots, driveways, streets or sidewalks is prohibited.

(8) Non-commercial washing of vehicles and mobile equipment (e.g. washing vehicles at a residence) is permitted only on assigned residential landscaping sprinkling watering days and time with a hose using an automatic shut-off nozzle or bucket of five gallons or less.

(9) The use of commercial vehicle wash facilities is permitted any day.

(10) Aesthetic fountains, waterfalls, etc. (outdoor and or indoor) are prohibited.

(b) Stage 2 alert begins when the aquifer level (as well as any other entities that provides water to the city) reaches 640 feet mean sea level at the monitored well.

(1) All restrictions from stage 1.

(2) Aesthetic fountains prohibited, unless treated wastewater is used.

(3) Watering with a hand-held hose or drip irrigation permitted during the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. any day.

(4) Watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler, permitted only once a week on the designated watering day during the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.:

(5) Filling of new and existing swimming pool is prohibited unless at least 30 percent of the water is obtained from a source other than the Edwards Aquifer (as well as any other entities that provides water to the city). In addition, refilling is permitted only if it has been drained for repairs.

(6) Conforming golf courses shall effect a 20 percent reduction of ET rate. Non-conforming golf courses shall use no more than 1.6 times their base usage. Accompanied by reduced irrigation times.

(7) Athletic fields shall reduce water use by an additional five percent from stage 1 and have on with SAWS (as well as any other entities that provides water to the city) an approved conservation plan.

(8) Non-commercial washing of vehicles is permitted only on assigned residential landscape watering day and times. Use of a commercial vehicle wash facility is permitted any day.

Stage 2 restrictions continue until there is an announcement in the newspaper that stage 2 has been cancelled or that stage 3 is in effect.
